Welcome to Glenn Pace's 24 Hour Relay Page!
Runner Profile
My initiation into the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay happened last year. I decided to complete the 24 hour run as a solo runner with a goal of running 100 miles & raise $5000. Over $9600 was raised (almost enough to send 4 kids to summer camp), & I managed to cover 100 miles (with some time to spare), & then did a couple of final laps of the track in my flip flops (blisters & swollen feet!). The fundraising was far from a solo effort & it was the work of many people making donations, others forwarding emails, some good press, & word of mouth. The event was a very emotionally moving experience...not as much the running, but experiencing everything that was involved & being immersed in the spirit of the event. At the time, I expected it would be a one-time event for me, & that I would "graduate" to working with a "real" relay team in upcoming years. This year, many people are feeling the effects of an economy gone sideways. Families who have children with special needs are not immune to this, & are perhaps more succeptable. With that in mind, I decided that the best way that I could contribute, would be to step back into the event as a soloist. This year, however, I am upping the ante....& I am challenging all of those who participated before to take up the challenge with me. Many of us have heard people talk about "giving 110%". This is often an unmeasurable concept....however, in this case we can quantify it. Here's the deal: I will take last year's goal of running 100 miles & increase it by 10%...therefore making it a personal goal to run 110 miles in 24 hours. That's 44 laps of a 4km course. I ask that you take the 110% challenge...either by increasing last year's donation by 10%, or by forwarding my message to 10% more people. The North Shore News did a great article last year for their Sunday edition in the "Live" section....you can read the article here: http://www.canada.com/northshorenews/news/live/story.html?id=e39dc5fd-2b43-4591-832f-4128c4bb8ef7 It is my belief that one person can make a difference. I also believe that a series of individuals with a common commitment can have an impact that is exponential. It is my objective to raise money that benefits children with disabilities in order for them to attend the Easter Seals Camps. To do so, I need your help. Typically, the 24 hour Relay...as the name implies...is run in relay fashion by a team of runners. This team sets out to raise funds...on average, there are 20 individuals to raise funds & take turns running. It is my personal goal to complete the 24 hours on my own steam...in one continuous push....that is, I will continue moving forward from 10:00am Saturday morning June 20th until 10:00am the following Sunday morning (Father's Day). By the time all is said & done, I will hope to have covered the distance of 110 miles (176km)...44 laps Although I will be the one doing all of the "running", it is still a team effort. As I won't have a team of 19 others to rely on to raise funds, I need your help. Donations are most welcome, & word of mouth is very much appreciated. Those of you who know me personally, know that I can be obstinate, passionate, & myopic in reaching my goals. Although I have run several 100 mile races, I have never covered the distance in less than 24 hours. I find inspiration & drive in this cause & this is what will keep me moving forward for 24 hours. At the same time, I hope to inspire people to look beyond the boundaries that we set upon ourselves. I am not only relying on your support, but also that of my crew. My crew will consist of my lovely & supportive wife, as well as my two young children....all of whom are anticipating spending 24 hours at the event. If you are interested in coming out to lend your support, run a couple of laps, or just taunt me through the wee hours of the night, please contact me...I have a limited number of access bracelets that will allow you on site. Relentless Forward Motion. What better way to spend Father's Day? Regards, Glenn Pace aka Mudrunner
