Over 300 volunteers up to, during and after the event the 24 Hour Relay are needed to ensure that everything that everyone has come to associate with the Relay happens. What do volunteers do - what don't they do? Volunteers set up all the tents in the stadium - including the beer garden and stake out campsites throughout the park for the teams. Volunteers man the first aid tent. Volunteers run water stations, route marshal, tally results, flip burgers, paint faces, massage sore legs, man the bouncy castle, count the donations, arrange the awards - the list goes on and on.
It really is amazing and so very much appreciated to everyone who signs up and volunteers for the event - without you we would not be able to send 850 children to camp this year. Without your support we would have to hire people to do all those jobs and that would mean less of the money that your teams raised would be used to send kids to camp. So thank you 850 times for not only fundraising and running but for also volunteering. See you next year. Shaunene Neilson
WOW!! What a beautiful day for a Relay!! A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the kids, both BIG and little that came out to enjoy the day at the Kidz Zone. The day certainly was gorgeous and sunny, such a difference from last year! There was lots of fun to be had in the "Zone" this year. Children could chose to cheer on their team by making tambourines and pom poms to shake as their runners dashed by or to be decked out in beautiful bracelets designed with their teams own unique colours. For the budding artists that came to visit the "Zone" there were colourful Butterflies to make, crowns or bunny ears to create and watercolour masterpieces that could be made. Oh… and lets not forget Father's Day!! For the Dad's on the teams, the children could make picture frames for that special picture of "Me and Dad." A Kids Zone would not be complete without face painting!! Thank you so much to our AMAZING group of ladies from Dominelli College of Esthetics. Your face painting talents and creative zest were greatly appreciated by all! The Kidz Zone was alive with FIRE and FANTASY as well, with talented performer Matthew Levy, known professionally as Safety MATT'rs starting off the day's entertainment juggling everything from fire to axes, all while balancing on things like planks and tightropes!! His engaging visual display along with his hilarious comedy act drew in a huge crowd and dazzled both kids and parents! The fun continued with Doodles the Clown and her partner Chris! They delighted children with their Relay Themed act - hiding, chasing and teasing each other all over the "stage!" Many thanks to Matthew Levy, Doodles and Chris for sharing their time and talent to bring laughter and smiles to everyone in the Kids Zone at this year's Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay. To all of our amazing volunteers that helped out throughout the day at the Kidz Zone, thank you so very much as without you the smiles, laughter and joy experienced by all that visited our tent would not have been possible!! See everyone next year! Tara Lige
