I am sure all of you noticed that we grew tremendously this year. Our usually gang of Easter Seals campers and families were joined by the Easter Seals Leaders in Training (LIT’s) and Easter Seals Camp Staff alumni who arrived ready to thank everyone for making Camp Squamish rock each summer. I want to thank each and everyone one of you for coming and sharing your camp experiences with the Relay family! One of my favorite entertainment acts this year was the CAMP SQUAMISH choir who brought their camp songs alive on the main stage. I also enjoyed hanging out in the Camp Zone, brought to us by the Easter Seals Leader in Training Coordinators. You truly captured the essence of camp and brought a piece of Camp to the Relay. My favorite moment of the relay was when the Easter Seals Campers held up the final total during the last seconds of the relay. It was so heartwarming to see the faces of the relay participants and the campers light up when the total was revealed because everyone knew what an amazing summer the campers would get because of the dedication of the relay participants. Lastly, I would like to say a special thank you to the Easter Seals Campers and families and relay teams who keep coming back each year. I truly enjoy working with all of you and hearing that you have made a special bond with each other. Without all of you, the Easter Seals Camper Connection program wouldn’t have grown into the Easter Seals Camper Connections Family! Heather Chang, Easter Seals Camper Connections Liaison
Thank you for participating in the 24 hour Easter Seals Relay for Kids on June 21st and 22nd. Your involvement helps send many kids and teens to camps in Squamish, Winfield and Shawnigan. Without your help raising funds, not as many youth would be able to go to camp. It is important for children and teens to attend camp because they are able to do and participate in things they are not normally able to do.
Thank you,
To all the participants of the 2009 Money Mart Easter Seals 24 hour relay. Thank you so much, for all of your support. Like I mentioned in my speech. Camp is more then just a place. It’s a community, that allows people with disabilities grow and learn of their potential. Stephen Miller the CEO of the Lions Society of BC, a man who I have great respect for often mentions the challenges we face in our daily lives. Camp changes that. In several ways: The first is that it gets rid of the barriers and the second is that it teaches us that the things we thought were challenges aren’t actually, they're just life. Everyone struggles. Our struggles are just a little bit different. I may not be able to jump over a hurdle but I can crawl under them. And thank you so much for being a part of teaching me to embrace my disability and helping all the other kids as well. Sincerely Nathan. S. Bragg.
