Behind the scenes and on the front line, volunteers play a key role in making the Money Mart Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay for the Kids a success year after year.
The volunteers that teams provide help us operate the machine that is the Relay. It is these folks that bring that extra special something to the event by cheering on runners while route marshalling, making kids smile in the Kids’ Zone, being a friendly face in the volunteer tent, running the onsite games, and providing hospitality in the food and beverage area. Thank you to all of those individuals who supported the Relay and their teams by volunteering! An extra big thank you goes to those volunteers who helped out during the late night shifts! The volunteers from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy help keep everyone relaxed and refreshed all day on Saturday. Thanks to all the students for spending the day with us! The Medical Tent volunteers treat our blisters, bumps, bruises and more. Thank you for your care. Thank you to all the volunteers from Money Mart for running the results tent for the full 24 hours.
The water stations are a key part of the run. Thanks to Michael, Barb and their amazing groups from Burnaby Central and the Pacific Squadron Cadets. Behind the scenes at a secret location there is a team of volunteers who open all the pledge envelopes and count every single penny that is dropped off during the Relay. This is no small task and we thank all those folks and their calculators for making it possible to announce the final total on Sunday! Each year the FIJI’s and The DeeGee’s from UBC’s Greek system support the relay by providing much needed man and woman power. The FIJI’s do so much for set up, tear down and doing deliveries during the event. Without them the event would not run as smooth as it does. The DeeGee’s keep everyone informed by running the Information tent for 28 hours straight. Thank you! Thank you to the Maillardville Lions Club for getting up super early to run the Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast!
The New Westminster Lions Club collects the bottles and cans for recycling from teams, returns them and donates the cash to Easter Seals Camps. Thank you for helping keep the Relay clean and helping us raise more money for the kids. A key element to the Relay is the beverage tent which is hosted by the Mount Seymour Lions Club. Thank you for staying up until 2am this year to keep our participants refreshed. Last but not least THANK YOU to all the members of the Relay Organizing Committee who plan, coordinate and execute each of their own areas - the Medical Tent, Kids’ Zone, the running route, Entertainment, camping, security, awards, Food and beverage, Camper Connection, the Info tent, and so much more. Your commitment and hard work are appreciated by all of us at Easter Seals! On behalf of Easter Seals and the 850 children with disabilities going to Easter Seals Camp this summer-
